Sometimes, events and institutions can be a little too eager to affix “International” to the front door. We see it at tiny rural airports, tinier art galleries and restaurants serving basked goods. “International” can be one misleading boast.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, however, is perfectly entitled to wield the term. Alongside Edinburgh's Fringe and Montréal's Just For Laughs event, this local laugh-fest is legitimately big time.

Peter Cook, Joan Rivers, Steve Wright and Lenny Henry have all enjoyed past association with the festival.

To be candid, this 2010 is a little light on global marquee names. So, we've shone a torch on the best to help you find your way.
