Brisbane Chinese Restaurants
Oriental Taste
162 Beaudesert Road, Moorooka
Gone are the days when you had to travel to the heart of the city or Fortitude Valley for good food. The suburbs of Brisbane are now holding their own in terms of well-priced decent restaurants, and Oriental Taste is proof of this. Yum cha here is the specialty and you order from a picture menu rather than the traditional trolleys. The dumplings are made on-site and it shows. Try the chicken and chive dumplings, the pork and shark fin dumplings and the pork dumplings in soup. The service is attentive and friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

Manor Chinese Restaurant Cafe
The Glen Shopping Village Cnr Gaskell & Angel Street, Eight Mile Plains
Something of an institution within Brisbane’s dining scene, the Manor rests on more than its reputation. For starters they use the order form system. This is, of course, not as fun as the more traditional trolleys, however it does mean the food is hotter as it hasn’t circled the restaurant several times. Regulars say this is the best yum cha in Brisbane. Try the made to perfection fried calamari, and the dumplings, both steamed and fried, are all excellent. Other recommendations include the unusually light pork buns and for dessert the egg custard tarts are the best in town.
