Thank God for the Irish pub. Sanctuary for ex-pats and locals alike, J.B.O'Reilly's have seen it all and have just about every brewed and fermented base covered.

Editorial

How does one measure an authentic Irish pub? By the number of U2 cover bands that tramp through the joint? Is it the number of ex-pats downing pints of Guinness each time the boys in green show their colours? Or perhaps the amount of memorabilia on the walls? No, you measure it on the strength of its beer. And if there's one thing J.B.O'Reilly's can claim, it's the best Guinness outside of Ireland. And they have the awards to prove it.

Not ones to blow their own horn, J.B.O'Reilly's is a dependable, if somewhat predictable, Irish experience. While the outside may look more like a betting hall, inside you'll find walls jammed with portraits, prints, posters and booze propaganda (the best kind of propaganda). Long wooden benches seat a host of souls around the many tables. And most seats offer a decent view of the stage, where you can catch some live folk, contemporary Irish music and rock.

The bar prides itself in the sheer amount of liquor they stock. You can grab all the Irish booze you like, including Magners, Kilkenny, Bulmers, Guinness and more, plus a great range of local and imported brews. For a harder treat, just jump into the list of Irish whisky. There's also a decent wine list if you're keener on fermented grapes. Just as long as you can hold a tune with the crowd, no one seems to care what you drink here.
