The Gate Bar & Bistro
Editorial
If you're looking for a contemporary pub experience, the Gate Bar and Bistro ticks all the right boxes. Awarded Best Perth Pub 2008, it's a sleek affair encompassing two bars, a beer garden and bistro. While none of that is particularity unique, the decor and attention to detail helps set this Freemantle staple apart.
The sports bar offers seven larger plasma screens to watch the latest events from around the world; the beer garden is bright and breezy and the lounge has a good selection of classic and localised cocktail options to sink into. All cocktails are a flat $15 and if you're not in the mood for a Manhattan or caprioska, you can always try a west coast special. The Exotico, with its mix of Midori and strawberry liqueur, is a particularly tropical option. If you'd rather keep your sugar levels in check, the beer selection is extensive; likewise there's a large assortment of wines to go with your bistro meal and the top-shelf liquor is brimming with alcoholic gems. Basically, everything you'd expect from a modern pub experience.
With live music in the beer garden, a casual atmosphere and reasonable prices, the Gate Bar and Bistro might not do anything unexpected, but it does the suburban pub thing very well.
