Witch's Cauldron
Editorial
Not too many eateries in Perth can boast a longevity of more than 30 years in operation. And when you find one that can make this claim, you'll discover it's usually no surprise they are still in business. The Witch's Cauldron is one such venue and even has clientele that have been frequenting the restaurant for as long as its doors have been open. Yes, they are middle-aged and yes, they love the consistency this place offers. Basically that's what it comes down to at The Witch's. The menu rarely changes and that's just the way the regulars like it. They can come here and be greeted personally and know exactly what they want before they even sit down; proving my theory that the older you get, the less you like change.
Showing my age, I love the fact that I can still get those famous garlic prawns, a good old-fashioned prawn cocktail and deep-fried camembert here; just as I did close to 10 years ago. Although prices for main meals have risen considerably since I was last here, I'm happy to pay whatever they ask for a classic crayfish mornay or the favourite Gabrielle dish - an eye fillet stuffed with prawns and topped with a delicious port sauce. Am I showing my age again with the port? The food at The Witch's is always fresh, simple and tasty, with servings leaning towards the large side. If you love tasty seafood, perfectly cooked steaks and a great wine list (selected by Cellar Masters), you'd be mad to risk eating anywhere else. Particularly if you're with your parents.
