Oak & Ivy Cellar Bar
Editorial
If you can shake off the slight claustrophobia, the Oak and Ivy cellar bar has all the delights of the modern world with a touch of ye olde England. Modelled on an old English pub, but sporting modern affectations - such as lighting and plumbing - the bar is a slice of heritage taken right from the former hotel (The John Bull Tavern) which stood on the site before it was developed as the Criterion Hotel. Gone is the dust and the plague (oh wait; that was England), to be replaced by walls of memorabilia, oak barrels and dart boards.
Decked with plenty of wood furniture, and carrying a range of seating options, this bar is a throw back to the heydays of drinking, when a pint would cost you less than a horse and property would be won or lost on the outcome of a darts game. While things might be a little more complicated now, the sentiments remain at the Oak and Ivy. Here, you can actually have a decent chat with your bartender (whether you want it or not) and hear yourself over the music. How many other bars can you say that about?
Your standard issue range of beer and spirits are all available for your responsible consumption. There's also the usual bottled imports (Becks, Stella etc) if you're in the mood to feel a little ?toff'. Mind you, after a thorough trouncing on the darts board, you might just want to bury your head in a cocktail or two. All those joys and more await you now at the Oak and Ivy.
