Greenhouse
Editorial
People of Perth, prepare to discover a restaurant and bar that is sure to simply blow you away. The Greenhouse, located on St Georges Terrace in the heart of the city, is like nothing you've ever seen before. Built from recycled or recyclable materials such as straw bales for insulation, raw plywood and recycled plastics, The Greenhouse was designed and constructed with the intention of providing customers with a serene place to escape the rat race. And those vertical garden walls are just amazing.
Carrying the green concept right through to the menu was just as important for the owners of this impressive establishment. So an extensive rooftop garden provides a large percentage of the menu's produce. Fresh herbs, fruit, vegetables, salad leaves and tea are all grown upstairs with tender love and care and change with each season. Dynamic young chef Matt Stone (ex Star Anise and Pata Negra) utilises this produce to his best ability, providing honest yet flavoursome dishes for breakfast, lunch and tapas. Diners can expect creations like sardines on toast featuring an escabeche of Fremantle sardines with fennel and carrot, seared red mullet and slow-cooked pork hock. The Greenhouse is just as beautiful after dark and the evening eats menu has plenty of mouth-watering treats like the steamed prawn dumplings, piquillo pepper and manchego croquettes and duck riette. Or, if you're just after your morning coffee fix, there's nothing like starting the day in the big smoke with a look into the "coffee window" surrounded by greenery. The Greenhouse excels in everything it was designed to do, especially when it comes to providing a well-needed oasis for those in the city. If you haven't already, now is the perfect time to go green!
