Box Deli

Box Deli may not be in New York, but it gives that fine city a run for its money in the chic stakes.

Editorial

"A taste of Downtown Manhatttan," is one of the world's most overused descriptors for places that, clearly, are nowhere near said island. It's one of those annoying bits of jargon you always see on estate agent spiel, you know, on one of those crummy little apartments that in no way resemble a New York loft. And let's be honest, remote old Perth is no where near Manhattan.

However, once in a while I'll forgive a certain venue for using this term to describe itself, not because it necessarily reminds me of the Big Apple's charms, but just because it's a fantastic place in and of itself. Box Deli is simply beautiful.

The restaurant upstairs serves fantastic food, but it's downstairs in the swish bar that things really heat up. All chic stainless steel and stark white walls, the ambience is picture perfect, with a beautiful crowd to boot. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and thank goodness too. Otherwise the gargantuan wine and spirit list may bamboozle you.

It's worth shelling out top dollar for one of the fantastic house cocktails too, such as the Zentastic Martini with gin, cointreau, zen green tea liquer, fresh orange and lemon, or simply run with the Sex and the City chic and plump for a Cosmopolitan, or perhaps even a Fifth Avenue.

I was very dissapointed. The menu said Fish with mash potatos and Asparagas. The Chef decided to change the menu and serve the fish on a pile of potato chips and nothing else. I wont be going back there ever again for dinner. It was obvious the chef couldn't be bothered.

I love this place!! It would not be out of place in the Kings Way in London (although the food is better and the service far less surley) I will highly recommend it for all my Lower North Shore collegues and aquaintenances who travel from Sydney to Perth Cheers Steve Price

As part of a well behaved group on a Saturday night we were extremely surprised to be asked to leave in exchange for dinner for two on another night. The bar was 3/4 empty and there was no reason for us to be asked to leave. We certainly would not go there again given this experience and will be telling our business and personal contacts of the same.
