Vultures Cafe Restaurant
Editorial
I remember very clearly the day Vultures opened in the early nineties. Back then it was the most unique, innovatively decorated venue in Perth and quickly became the place to be seen if you were a diner, and the place to work if you were in the hospitality industry. Surprisingly, even after all these years and the opening of many funky new eateries around Perth, Vultures is still going strong and remains the most comfortable place to dine in Northbridge, particularly alfresco style. Massive wood carvings of Vultures seem to peer over your shoulder as you tuck into the iconic Poor Boy dish, comprising spicy chicken and prawns with avocado served on toasted focaccia. This signature dish has done well to remain on the menu all these years and it's still as tasty as ever.
In addition to its comfy cushions and Indonesian decor, Vultures also boasts an extensive menu that remains available long after the clock strikes midnight. While other eateries are offering regret-me-in-the-morning kebabs and greasy burgers, Vultures are serving up fresh salads, pastas and seafood. (And I don't mean crabsticks either). Sunday breakfast is always a big event with families and friends taking over the alfresco area to enjoy their bacon and eggs, Northbridge style. It seems that new management was just what this venue needed to revive its popularity from yesteryear, not that it ever became unpopular. It's just nice to see the staff smiling again and the menu receiving a welcomed revamp to include delights such as the Persian chicken or Ocean to Outback - Vultures' unique take on surf and turf. Prepare for a generous serving of char-grilled kangaroo fillets topped with mussels, baby octopus and prawns in a creamy Cointreau and blood orange sauce. Now that's what I call originality.
