Paddington Ale House
Editorial
The Paddington Ale House is Perth's answer to the beer halls of yore. Featuring more than 140 beers from around the world and a pretty decent menu of pub grub, this bar makes for a popular after-work stop-off joint, a weekend retreat for those needing a little escape from the husband or wife, and an all-round tourist destination.
But the Paddo is more than just a booze hall. You can also catch live sports on the various big screens, including boxing, NFL and AFL. And when you're not barking at the screen, you can get into some live music from the many bands that play the main stage. The music covers a range of covers, retro and rock-themed styles and, on the whole, isn't that offensive. DJs fill in the rest of the weekend, giving you more ammunition to shape your rump to. But if you'd prefer a quieter evening, the venue's Kimberley restaurant offers a little respite from the madding crowd.
Having a bottle shop attached to the pub helps when you need a venue with a deep cellar. Beers are sourced from pretty much every country that brews and ferments their natural crops. Wines also hold a special place in their hearts, with the dedicated wine store providing a plethora of wines to the hotel proper - ranging from budget drops to more expensive, once-a-year purchases. For range and price, the Paddo certainly seems to have other bars beat.
