Editorial

Sala Thai is something of an institution standing out among Freo's mainly Italian offerings. Opened in 1991, the Tan family took over in 1993, moving to Norfolk Street in 2002. With a long family history in the hospitality business and a hands-on approach, they have a reputation for consistently good food and gracious service. They are, above all, customer oriented and indeed this is a family concern, where the spirit of hospitality is always evident.

You will find all your Thai favourites on the menu - tom kah gai, (rich creamy coconut soup with chicken), tom yum koong, (spicy and sour prawn soup with lemongrass and mushrooms), pad thai noodles, curries, spicy salads and stir-frys, as well as specials like hor mok talay, (steamed seafood in red curry paste, coconut milk, egg, and chinese cabbage). Peter recommends their plaa thod sum rods, (deep-fried whole fish topped with tamarind chilli sauce).

Open for dinner every night, banquet menus are available and up to 36 guests can be accommodated in the enclosed courtyard with its ambient waterfall. There is also a spacious dining room and a veranda for watching the passing parade and enjoying the sea breeze.
