Sail & Anchor Pub Brewery
Editorial
Despite its nautical moniker, there's very little about the Sail and Anchor Pub Brewery that will have you raising anchor. A Freo landmark, the pub is close to many of the area's attractions - the docks, Fremantle oval and the Fremantle markets - making it a meeting point and book end to many a day out. When the Dockers are training, supporters are known to get their enthusiastic ??juices' flowing by knocking back a few before cheering on the lads. And you can't get more Australian than that.
Known best for their award-winning Indian Pale Ale, the pub's philosophy seems a simple one: cold beer, good grub and no frills. And although the food hasn't won as many awards as the beers have, the tapas-style approach allows a little versatility when heading out in bigger groups. For larger meals, there's a decent gastro pub menu to pour over. After that, you only need to decide where to park for the night - outside in the beer garden, downstairs in the bar dining area or upstairs in a lounge.
Weekends see the crowd pick up, with live bands playing a variety of covers and rock tunes. More than a few people have been seen partying on a Saturday night, only to return for a lazy, Sunday session the next day. It's a hard life.
