Matilda Bay Restaurant
Editorial
Many waterside eateries claim to be located at the “water's edge” but how many really are? Some restaurants seem to think that a two hundred metre walk across a major highway still entitles them to “water's edge” billing. Well not at Matilda Bay Restaurant. Literally a few feet from Matilda Bay, this restaurant has earned its bragging rights from the day it opened its doors. With gorgeous views across the bay to the city skyline and Kings Park, it's no wonder this place is fully booked for special occasions like Mother's Day and Christmas, with reservations every other day coming close to a full house.
The food is contemporary and fresh without being pretentious, pleasing diners from all walks of life. A strong emphasis on fresh seafood is complemented by “The Grill”, satisfying those with a hankering for a prime cut of steak. Lovers of Wagyu beef will be delighted with the 240 gram sirloin of pure bred, grain-fed beef grilled to your liking and served with your choice of sauce and sides. For something really special, check the daily offerings from “The Rotisserie” such as a whole fish of the day or fabulous Western Australian crayfish. Other main courses include seafood paella, a delicious seafood platter, Amelia Park lamb, duck and braised pork belly. Serving sizes are so generous that they only just permit a dessert to finish with or a lovely cheese board with a dessert wine. Although many save Matilda Bay for special occasions, I think it deserves to be visited as much as your wallet will allow.
