Dux Cafe
Editorial
Family owned and operated restaurants usually share a unique quality that is often hard to find elsewhere – an element of hominess. It seems when a family is running the show, you’re welcomed with big genuine smiles and wonderful cooking aromas, just like home. At Dux Restaurant, owners David and Sheryn Alexander pride themselves on their motto, “Premium food prepared fresh for you”. Since beginning their business in 2003, David and Sheryn’s dedication to providing quality fresh fare to their customers has created quite a loyal following. Where other restaurants may state, “you can’t please everyone” Dux Restaurant does just the opposite. Nothing is too hard here.
The menu is developed with a focus on fresh, seasonal produce with a significant portion of herbs, lettuce and vegetables coming from pop’s home garden. All chicken and meat products are chemical- and antibiotic-free and the fish of the day is line-caught in Western Australia or farmed in Australia. And if you have any particular dietary requirements, just tell the staff and they will be more than happy to accommodate you where possible. Whether you visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food is quite impressive. A simple dinner menu gives diners entree choices such as crispy pork cheek and mango salad, kangaroo fillet coated in Tasmania pepper berries or a share plate of handmade delicacies. There’s a wonderful prawn and crab capellini and house-made ravioli filled with goat’s cheese, pine nuts and preserved lemon, which can also be enjoyed as a main. The eye fillet on pumpkin skordalia with a mushroom-, spinach- and prosciutto-filled crepe is also worth a try if you have a hearty appetite. If you make it to dessert, you’ll be delighted by the homemade selection on offer. Dux of its class!
