Rockpool Bar & Grill Perth, Burswood Entertainment Complex
Editorial
As one of Australia’s leading and most influential chefs, Neil Perry knows how to deliver a restaurant of a calibre so high, it could make you a little light headed. The thought of dining at the recently opened Rockpool Bar and Grill has Perth gastronomes in quite a flutter and for good reason – it’s possibly one of the most exquisite and memorable dining experiences one could have in Perth.
The spacious restaurant is a breathtaking space of natural colours, light woods, soft lighting and candles, and a glorious open central kitchen. Opulence is an understatement.
We all know Neil Perry’s dedication to the use of premium local produce is a key factor in all his restaurants, so with our state offering some of the best seafood and beef on the market, Rockpool and Western Australia seem to be a perfect match.
The menu is surprisingly lengthy and boasts many hot and cold starters, pasta and sides, such as Perry’s famous ‘mac and cheese’ made with cheddar, gruyere and parmesan - loved for its simplicity. Yet a word of advice – anyone who thinks they can visit Rockpool on a budget is wasting their time. That’s not to say everything is over priced, you get exactly what you pay for. And if what you want is the Osetra caviar, then expect to pay for such quality at $295 for 50 grams.
The real heroes at Rockpool are the gloriously grilled seafood and beef. Woodfire grilled White Rocks veal cutlet, David Blackmore’s dry aged full blood Wagyu and a 1.5 kilogram West Australian lobster are just the start. Of course the wine cellar is stocked with local and international drops to match every palate and dish on this menu.
With Rockpool booked for weeks in advance, I’d say Neil Perry has delivered to Perth one of our greatest dining experiences yet.
