Tyranny of Distance
Editorial
Tyranny of Distance appeared a couple of years back on Windsor's Union Street, just off the main drag from the Windsor end of Chapel. In keeping with the area's determinedly boho style, owners Carlo Colossimo of Big Mouth and George Loukas of nearby Tusk decided to haul in some artist mates to work their alternative magic on the place.
Combining a cafe business, opening at 7am on the dot and serving food right through to dinner, with something they call a Lubritorium (bar, to you and I) the boys and their mates have come up with something quite genuinely alternative. The open air space allows smokers free reign, and their doggies too. Graffiti adorns the walls, while brick a brac is cunningly recycled, giving a junkyard chic to the coolly named Tyranny.
Boozehounds can take heart - it's not all about the tasty coffee and yummy, affordable food. Happy hour reigns from 5-7pm Monday to Friday, with $4 schooners, basic spirits and house wine. They have Boags draught and James Squire Golden Ale on tap along with a great boutique Bottle list including White Rabbit, Monteith's golden ale, dopplelbock and crushed cider and Mexico's finest - Dos Equis. The wine list fairly whips round Australia's finest, and the cocktails are mighty fine. Try the Gin Jam for a tasty treat muddling marmalade with gin, aperol and pomegranate juice with bitters.
The place is bursting with random character and friendly, attractive staff. Whatever distance it takes to get here, Tyranny is worth it.

Honestly my favorite restaurant lately. Great staff, smoking area is awesome, cool decor and the food is an 9/10 and cheap.
