Railway Hotel

Since its dramatic refurb a few years ago, the Railway has once again become a popular spot for Windsor locals, offering one of the best rooftop bars in the area and more importantly a 24-hour bottle shop!

Editorial

The renovations on the original dirty old pub had a few locals worrying if this was the end of the Windsor-end of Chapel Street - the last bastion of the common people. Alas, they were right. It was indeed another classic gentrification of the classic corner pub. But honestly, this place is quite stunning now, with loads of plush seating areas, small tucked-away areas, beaded curtains, polished floors, fireplaces and warm muted colours. You'll probably want to dress half decently, although the crowd here is mostly very laidback in neat casuals and probably won't care what you're wearing.

The rooftop is the place to hang out. With lots of high bench tables and stools, you can watch the sunset, or be sleazy and hide behind one of the wooden beam pillars and perve at the crowd (no, not me, but I've noticed a few guys and girls doing this while pretending to be deeply immersed in their latest iPhone app).

The bar is extensive with a huge range of beers, pop mixers and wines, although most people seem to stick to the basics. Because of the open nature of the bar areas and rooftop courtyard, The Railway is quite a social place for a lot of locals, and while it gets quite packed most evenings, it's great for a lazy afternoon sojourn to watch the sunset. Finally, I want you to burn this into your memory and repeat after me: 24-Hour Bottle Shop…24-Hour Bottle Shop…24-Hour Bottle Shop…
