Wall Two 80
Editorial
Carlisle Street is one of Melbourne's most densely packed coffee strips, which is saying something in a city that is completely obsessed with the roasted bean. As such, the cafes that stand out here are those with a hint of something more - that inexplicable wow factor. Like the former kosher butcher transformed into Wall Two 80.
The name's cheating a bit, as this awesome little hole in a fantastically graffiti-strewn brick wall isn't technically located at 280 Carlisle Street, but rather it lurks cheekily behind it, on Nelson Street, like a school kid having a crafty fag behind the bike shed.
With milk crate bench seats along the adorned wall itself and a few steel tables at the hole in the wall take away window, there's barely more seating inside. There is a big wooden share table that often features amazing floral exhibits, like tulips with the mud and bulbs exposed, and a scattering of small wooden seats. But grab a pew or go for caffeine hit on the run, because these super-cool guys serve up Genovese to perfection.
There's no mucking around here, it's strong and tasty with a real dedication to the craft coming through in every cup. It's earthy and full, perfect for espresso or a rich and creamy latte. There's a small but equally yummy selection of toasted pides to accompany, including the seriously tasty debreziner sausage option.
