Vibe is another one of those out-of-place venues on Acland Street that is only for tourists.

Editorial

If you're after a quick drink and can put up with backpackers and rubbernecking tourists, then Vibe has some decent cocktail specials, and there are plenty of tables out front to while away your time while nibbling on some calamari.

The crowd here visits more for the Italian menu, which includes some good gourmet pizzas (starting at $12 for the roast pumpkin, spinach and pine nut with basil pesto). They also specialise in hand-made gnocchi, which is worth a try (go for the slow braised pork belly dumplings with roasted eggplant). The place gets busy late in the evening, especially in summer, with groups gathering on the tables out front and watching the endless flow of tourists up and down this crazy St Kilda street.

Having lived in St Kilda for more than a decade, I honestly can't recommend this place. It's another one of those outsider venues, trying hard to be groovy with old lamps and chandeliers and generally mismatched décor. With so many great eating and drinking options in St Kilda, this is not the sort of place I would choose to go. And I don't know about you, but I can't handle any venue that has the word 'vibe' in its name. Along with its crappy cohorts, this is one of the venues that spoiled the real vibe of Acland Street, which is why most locals won't go near it with a bargepole.
