Nineteen Squares
Editorial
There are two angles of approach in St Kilda. There are the backpacker and tourist trails and there are the trails that the locals take in order to avoid the backpackers and tourists. Nineteen Squares is a destination favoured by St Kilda locals who enjoy a laid back retreat, undiscovered by those who follow the tourist trails. While a lot of St Kilda's cafes compete for the lucrative backpacker dollar and deliver lower than common local flavour, Nineteen Squares has established itself as a favourite amongst favourites in the eyes of the locals.
Nineteen Squares can become very crowded and it's often necessary to perform a sideways shuffle to manoeuvre around the tiny interior but the owners have made full use of the footpath and adjacent verge to cope with the spill. Locally roasted Supreme Fair Trade organic beans ensure great tasting coffee and a simple but inventive breakfast and lunch menu keeps the punters coming back. The 'one pot wonder' comprising Spanish eggs baked in a terracotta pot with salsa, chorizo or grilled veg, and feta is this reviewer's hot pick. According to others, the chicken sandwich is the best in town.
This quirky little hole in the wall is right for all the right reasons. The Moroccan inspired interior resonates character, assisted by subtle surprises such as the wall mounted spoon collection and a changing display of artworks. Nineteen Squares has jumped the queue and become akin to 'old school' St Kilda overnight.

Best coffee in St.Kilda - that why I walk 10minutes to get there (no coffee here in Elwood worth getting)
