National Theatre
Editorial
So who does tread the boards and entertain a capacity seating of 783? Most Melbourne Dance schools use the National as their public performance base, in addition to which children's performing companies and various school productions are performed here. The National also has its very own National Theatre Ballet School and its annual Christmas performance of The Nutcracker Suite has delighted big and little locals for years. The National also has a Drama School offering accredited diplomas, full-time and part-time as well as introductory drama courses that are reasonably priced for any of you future Blanchetts and Jackmans out there.
These days when live performance sets you back some serious cash, the National can stand proud as an icon bringing theatre, music, ballet, tap and anything else you can imagine to the punters at an affordable price. If ever you needed an excuse to take the oldies out for a live performance that will be every bit as charming as your grandmother's smile - a visit to the National would be it.

How lucky is Melbourne to have yet another wonderful heritage theatre. This 800 seat venue specialises in community arts & dance but regularly features both comedy & musical performances as well. Great package deal available to hirers - particularly community groups and charities. The Theatre also houses Australia's oldest Ballet & Drama Schools which are about to clebrate their 75th anniversary.
