Tucked away along St Kilda’s leafy Acland Street is the Linden Gallery, a magnificent historical building exhibiting contemporary art in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Editorial

Known locally as 'The Linden', The Linden Centre of Contemporary Arts is a much loved gallery and exhibition space right in the heart of bustling St Kilda. The Linden offers a peaceful environment to appreciate the best in contemporary art and is well known for being a supporter for the development and promotion of art including opportunities for artists to create innovative and uncompromising work that is accessible to the general public.

The Linden holds an annual exhibition dedicated to contemporary Indigenous art with the aim of showcasing the best of contemporary Indigenous Australian art and promoting it to a wide audience. The Linden is also widely known for its annual Linden Postcard Show, which also acts as a major fundraiser for the gallery. Named because of the tradition of selecting six works to be reproduced and sold as Linden postcards, the Linden Postcard Show (works are to be no larger than 30cm x 30cm x 30cm) gives both emerging and established artists the chance to show and sell their work in a popular exhibition that is eagerly anticipated as an exciting event by Melbourne's art community.

In addition to its role as a exhibition space, the Linden also runs regular art classes in life drawing, painting, sculpture, and yoga and movement and has a dedicated Reading Room stocked with contemporary art journals and notices about current art competitions and events. A rare and peaceful gem in the heart of St Kilda!
