Fitzrovia

Fitrovia is a treasure trove of a fine restaurant on the surprisingly sparsely populated strip that is St Kilda's Fitzroy Street. You enter through a wall of glass, past a well-stocked bar laden with fresh lillies and seasonal vegetables, up stone steps towards the beautiful polished timber floorboards and soaring, decoratively adorned ceilings of a dining room that reeks of class. Maitre d' Marco Pugnaloni is a consummate professional who makes guests feel right at home, while London-trained chef Paul Jewson is a master at his craft. Pork belly with dark cherry chutney is divine, as is the snapper, with a firm focus on fresh local produce that sings in every dish.

A classy but friendly and home-like atmosphere. This is enhanced by an open kitchen concept where the chefs are able to interact with patrons. Fresh produce is displayed throughout the restaurant showing the colors of the season, figs, oranges, lemons, pears, fennel root, eggplant... It is wonderful to see a plate of "blistered" baby tomatoes on the counter, and handful of dry herbs mingling with hanging pots and pans. A place to share a meal with friends, family or business clients. It promotes local and fresh meats and vegetables. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable for quality and well presented meals. Enjoy the fresh dessert for a variety of flavors.
