Where else can you get a ‘Wet Pussy’ for just $5?

Editorial

Given its proximity to St Kilda's backpacker circuit and its location along what is perceived to be one of Melbourne's seedier streetscapes, the Cushion Lounge does pretty well in providing a venue that appeals to a less down-and-out clientele than some of its neighbours. The website proclaims that “good times” are what is does best and judging from the crowds that often spill over the footpath-facing bar seating, it lives up to that claim. Cheap drinks and cheap food appeal to both backpackers and those who admire them, plus an assortment of 'sex in the city on a budget' types aspiring to glamour.

Meals are available for under $20, with nightly specials as low as $5 and meal deals for as little as $10, such as a Tuesday night backpacker special, where $10 gets you a chicken parmigiana served with chips and a pint of Carlton draught. A wine list comprises Australian wines only, starting at $6 a glass or $25 a bottle. Mind you, a venue that promotes its Friday night drink special as a 'Wet Pussy' for just $5 probably doesn't have its mind too seriously on the wine list. On that topic, 'Spit Roast Sundays' promises DJs from 12noon till 3am. All in all, Cushion Lounge is the kind of bar where you can really let your hair down without worrying too much whether you are out of line - because you won't be.
