Cacao

A first for Melbourne, and probably Australia, Cacao is the Louis Vuitton of chocolate boutiques. Our glass-fronted kitchen allows you to see the creation of an internationally renowned taste as it happens. Sample an exquisite display of pastries as you watch these handcrafted chocolates being made, from the earliest stages of the beans into a solid block and finally the finished product of silky smooth fantasies which command international attention.

St Kilda's Fitzroy Street is a street well known for its first-rate cafes and restaurants. Across the road and protected from the masses in a more relaxed tree-lined location sits Cacao Fine Chocolates and Patisserie. Now in its fourth year, the loyal following is well established and this French bistro-style cafe is a firm favourite. Gaze longingly at the perfectly created chocolates, being careful not to drool all over the glass display cabinets, before choosing a selection to enjoy, or sit at one of the wooden tables sipping an espresso while savouring a sweet pastry.

Breakfast daily until 11.30am on the Cacao muesli (macadamia nut muesli served with natural yoghurt accompanied by poached pear and apricot with a sprinkle of cinnamon), or the croque monsieur (ham, bechamel sauce and mozzarella cheese on toast). For lunch sample the house-made quiches such as the Beaufort cheese with bacon; the vegetarian pizza on brioche dough with tomato sauce, brie and mozzarella cheese, pepper and herbs; a bratwurst sausage roll with chutney; or choose from a selection of baguettes including Atlantic salmon with boursin cheese, red onions, rocket and dill. Finish with a plate of carefully selected chocolates designed for your tasting pleasure with a cup of Cacao's signature hot chocolate made from a traditional French recipe.
