The Local Taphouse is Melbourne’s beer Mecca, and all fervent froth followers are welcome.

Editorial

The Local Taphouse has always been a Carlisle Street Legend. It used to be a bit crusty, with great live entertainment and a dedicated follower of locals who loved their beer. It's since had a massive facelift, adding on a whole new floor with awesome rooftop beer garden, and it's all a bit chi chi. But it's still all about great live entertainment, the locals and, most importantly, the beer.

The Taphouse is a heathenous temple to the amber ale, and its worshippers are certainly fervent. There are 20 taps on offer, serving up delights including Bridge Road's Bling IPA, Mountain Goat's tasty Hightail, 3 Raven's sumptuous Dark Beer, and international winners Leffe Brune and Trumer Pilsner. It really is Mecca for hop lovers.

The bottled beer list looks like a phone book. Wines and spirits aren't so well represented, but if you whine about that, you're missing the point. This place is all about beer. And it's a great spot to enjoy the foamy stuff too, with a real old style dark wood finish, Parisian-style tables, deep, dark leather sofas, dangling paper lamps, rotary fans on the roof and gilt edged mirrors on the wall. She's certainly pretty.

But it's not all fancy pants. There are regular live music nights, trivia and stand up comedy too, and no one will make you feel dumb if you don't know your way round the taps. They're positively itching to give you some fun, informative beer 101 classes.
