World-class theatre going now also includes sophisticated restaurant dining at Script; the stylish bar and bistro that is part of MTC’s modern new Southbank home.

Editorial

Sleekly modern in style and offering innovative Italian bistro dining, Script Bar and Bistro provides a high class haven not just to theatre patrons but VCA students, weekend breakfasters and Southbank residents alike. Housed within the stunning new home of the Melbourne Theatre Company, Script Bar and Bistro is open all day, providing a sophisticated option for those looking to extend an evening’s entertainment or simply seeking a sun drenched breakfast or leisurely lunch on the outside terrace. Run by experienced industry duo Adam and Brendan Keyte and offering an intimate dining experience, Script features seasonal, locally-sourced fare with an Italian bent, which showcases the best Victorian produce.

Enjoy a pre-theatre dinner starting with basil calamari salad or gorgonzola and zucchini flower risotto before sampling baked southern ocean swordfish on peperonata with cucumber and lime salsa, eggplant parmigiana or a 280g beef eye fillet with potato and herb roesti, thyme butter and onion jus. Give your meal an Italianate finish with an affogato, mango pannacotta with honey mandarin creme fraiche or a classic tiramisu. Late-night dining allows theatre lovers to sup on baked olive-crusted Tasmanian salmon fillet or veal osso buco, or simply settle in for post-show dissection with a bottle of red and Script’s “Writer’s Block” cheese board. Menus also provide suggestions for complementary wines for each dish if selecting from the extensive wine list, which includes 21 wines by the glass and a huge range of liqueurs and cocktails, proves a little too daunting.

Lovely setting but the garlic is bit overwhelming.

I love this restaurant, but could they please change the menu more than once a year? I go there often before the theatre, but I'm so bored with the menu I could cry.
