Maze Grill
Editorial
Offering a more relaxed option to the main maze restaurant, maze Grill is a bustling, buzzy venue based on the informal style of a New York steakhouse. The tiled floor, comfortable chairs and vibrant green glazed tiles which form a backdrop to the large, theatrical open kitchen all add up to a more casual feel for this diner. The menu has a different focus too, with the chefs cooking up a storm at the char grill and offering a selection of prime meats and seafood. A choice of half a dozen quality steaks of various cuts and ages should be enough to keep any dedicated carnivore happy, while there are several other main course items as well as starters, salads and plates to share. Like at the adjacent maze, prices are kept at a reasonable level for this standard of dining.
Other main course items include pappardelle with Wagyu Bolognese, aged parmesan and basil, whole grilled poussin with lemon and harissa and braised pork cheeks with honey and cloves. Starters and small plates feature big flavours such as creamy white onion soup with jamon and sauteed potatoes, crispy soft shell crab with harissa mayonnaise and crispy pig’s trotters with ravigote dressing. Desserts are simple but satisfying – try the chocolate and pecan brownie with salted caramel ice-cream, green tea puffs with chocolate sauce or rhubarb and vanilla sundae. Different in style to maze Melbourne but with the same top-notch wine list and switched-on service, maze Grill offers excellent food in a casual setting.
