Kouzina Restaurant and Bar opened its doors in March 2007. Ideally situated as part of the Southgate Arts and Leisure Precinct with its balcony overlooking the Yarra River with spectacular views of the Melbourne City Skyline. Kouzina is the ideal place for romantic dinners. It also caters for corporate lunches, has a private dining room and a special pre theatre menu so that you can catch your favourite show with time to spare.

Editorial

There’s still a faint Mecca feel to the new Greek eatery now located at Mecca’s former site, but there are some definite changes with the removal of banquettes in favour of regular seating so that every table within the dining room has a view. The name has changed too: Kouzina, which means kitchen in Greek, is now ready to wow Melbourne with its creative take on a much loved cuisine. Executive chef and owner Theo Kostoglou is no stranger to the industry with six restaurants under his belt including the Knox favourite Mykonos. Kouzina is his chance to be creative with the cuisine from his ancestry and our chance to enjoy something out of the ordinary.

Choose from the great value lunch and pre-theatre offerings, $29.50 and $39.50 respectively, with a choice of two courses and a glass of wine. Alternatively, make a selection directly from the a la carte menu. Start with an entree of octapodi toursi (pickled octopus served truffle-scented fava, red onions, kalamata olives, potato salad, rocket and Tasmanian salmon roe) followed by the souvlaki hirino (baby pork tenderloin kebab served with a lemon pilaf, brunoise of Greek salad, and tzatziki). Finish with the Turkish baklava made with apricots, cashews, and pistachios served with vanilla bean ice-cream. An excellent and extensive wine list is worth a glance.

After visting Kouzina Restaurant last saturday, my friends and I can't wait to go back and try more of the interesting food on the menu. We had the degustation option, and we were amazed at the presentation, flavours and selections we received. It is the first time we have tried anything like it in a Greek restaurant, truly original and daring if I say the least. The waitress that served us had one of the biggest and warmest smiles I have seen, and service was excellent. Highly reccomended.
