BLVD Bar
Editorial
In transit between events or in idle pursuit of a decent cocktail, you’ll find what you need in the mild, vast and shiny space of the Blvd Bar; also, somewhat perplexingly, called Number Five.
This place is not a “local”. In fact, perhaps we should call it a “general” so broad are its aims and so assorted its clientele. Like many venues in the precinct, this bar strives to be all things to all comers and succeeds moderately.
There’s a not entirely unpleasant airport lounge feel to this multi-tiered, multi-functional business. Depending on the time of day or night, the clientele revolves. There are those on the ascent before a trip to the theatre or on the descent following a loss at the casino or the footy. No matter the mood of fellow drinkers, however, the ambience remains at a constant temperature to prepare you for your flight into the day or night.
With its clutch of bars and several event rooms for private use, the Blvd has a sense of slick impermanence. No one here gets too comfortable or too attached to a bar with a temperate buzz that serves its purpose well as a pit-stop.
The décor is pleasant. The drinks are fine. The service is respectable. This “general” commands the drinking troops with practised ease.
