An iconic pit stop for weary shoppers.

Editorial

Iconic in Melbourne as a stayer, Blue Train is one of those places that pretty much has something for everyone, at (almost) any time. Located centrally and being one of the many sometimes clashing personalities within the Southgate retail and leisure precinct of Southbank, Blue Train deserved its reputation as being a place to trust for not-too-fancy but good inexpensive modern food. There is often a wait for a table at peak times but with a balcony that captures a full compliment of northern sun, overlooking the river Yarra and the city skyline, it's a wait that's worth it.

The breakfast menu is served until 3pm and it has everything a late rising, late-night-out-inducing appetite will need. Weekly changing lunch specials for $10 and a choice of smaller and larger servings run the gauntlet of exotic cuisines such as Indian, Greek, Thai or Middle Eastern (a kids menu doesn't stray too far into the exotic but includes pizza and spring rolls to make it fun).

A long list of wines, beers, cocktails (even mocktails) and the usual compliment of drinks are accessibly priced to all budgets. With top class to tacky retail experiences, locals and tourists alike will find it easy to fill in a few hours traversing the expanse that is Southgate. Blue Train is the perfect place for a pit stop while doing so.
