Tryst is one of a kind – a unique and low-key cocktail bar set in an old converted house.

Editorial

Situated just a few steps off the main Chapel Street shopping strip, Tryst is a rather cute little cocktail bar set in a handsomely converted Victorian terrace house. On first arriving it's easy to think you're wandering into someone's private house, albeit with a very well stocked bar. But once inside, it's clear that Tryst is made for private comfort, with lots of comfy and private sitting areas snuggled into the different rooms at the rear. Elegant couches and lamps give a slightly 'olde worlde' feel, at least until a scrumptious cocktail lands on your table and you remember you are indeed in the 21st century.

The front garden has been partly paved in, but the little picket fence remains and the effect is a homely feel, something that almost no other bar in Melbourne has. It's perfect for an early evening drink with work colleagues, and you could even take your mum there on an early weeknight. The crowd is mostly a local, young and professional set, but it's relaxed enough that most punters just want to enjoy a quiet drink away from the craziness of Chapel Street.

On the weekends the vibe picks up with heavier house music gracing the old rooms inside, giving it a private club feel that will easily put you in the mood for some more serious clubbing later on. A great place to hold a function, and a perfect place to start or end your night out with a little panache.
