The Squires Loft steakhouses are definitely of the old school variety and can always be relied upon to present expertly-cooked, top quality cuts of meat. The South Yarra restaurant is the original and many still consider it to be the best. Steak is what matters here as evidenced by dedicated suppliers as well as owners and staff with a passion for presenting the best cuts. Meatlovers are guaranteed to get a quality steak that's cooked to perfection. The no-nonsense, masculine decor mirrors the hearty, meat-laden menu, with wooden panelling, racks loaded with red wine and rough hewn logs all adding a rustic charm.

The menu is to the point, offering half a dozen cuts of beef including Angus porterhouses and eye fillets and the choice of several accompanying sauces, as well as pork spare ribs, lamb loin chops, chicken breast fillets and vegetarian kebabs. Starters such as baked mushrooms with fetta, tiger prawn kebabs and warm chicken salad can also serve as mains for those seeking lighter fare. If you still have room after polishing off a 400g steak or a kilo of pork ribs, desserts such as sticky date pudding or hot chocolate fudge cake are similarly straightforward but satisfying. Squires Loft South Yarra is a popular destination for dedicated carnivores - bookings are essential for Friday lunches and weekends.

This restaurant do have a good view, but food is average wouldn't go back for dinner again.

This steakhouse is full every night - After eating here, I now understand why. The Porterhouse was to die for, so tender and cooked to perfection. Great sauce as well. I will be back.
