Picnic
Editorial
What is about South Yarra? Here, we have a postcode redolent of money but of very little coffee sense. Amid the boutiques, high-octane delis and nightclubs doors that hide some very expensive trouble, you'd think a good cup of Joe could be easily found.
Well, it can't. There are fifty places that serve dishwater with a snarl and about a half dozen gems that gleam like the finest agate. Come on down, Picnic, and claim your prize as one of these rare, shining treasures.
Picnic has enjoyed a place in the sun since the last half of 2010. Everything about the place, save for the name, has changed for the better. Before the shift in management, service and interior design, Picnic, frankly, was no picnic. Now, with Giancarlo coffee's Orginale blend in your cup and easy fare, like breakfast eggs and Parma sandwiches, executed with precision on your fork, you can sink in for a true bout of leisure.
Goodness knows why, but the uncomplicated pleasures we all expect from a café are hard to come by this side of Milano. Picnic has tipped the balance in the favour of the 3141 and the simple, rare possibility of a nosh with a coffee is ours for the taking.
