Da Noi Restaurant
Editorial
You are extremely safe in his hands as he cooks 19th century-style dishes from his native southern Italian homeland using recipes that have been passed down for generations.
Ideally you will allow Pietro to cook your meal as if a guest in his home, however time not permitting, a small a la carte menu is offered written entirely in Italian, which the staff will happily translate. For entree you might be treated to grilled giant octopus marinated in extra virgin olive oil, red wine, vinegar, lemon, garlic and parsley. For main perhaps the baked eggplant tower filled with Sardinian pecorino cheese, roma tomatoes and basil served on a fresh tomato-based sauce. The Italian wine list offers many by the glass and BYO is available Monday's only with $8 corkage per bottle.

This restaurant was in our top five. The degustation was great value and inventive, the service intimate and the wine list was interesting. But on a recent visit we left feeling churned and burned. The degustation was small, uninspiring and expensive. The imported (only) wine list is disapointing. The local equivalent would be half the cost and double the quality. Our waiter, when questioned as to the removal of our favourites from the list, was dismissive which further reduced our enjoyment

It's a very unique restaurant with superb food, personal service & amazing atmosphere. Every time going there becomes an experience and I always feel welcomed and âÂÂat homeâÂÂ. My all time favorites are any pasta with squid ink, rabbit ragu, succulent pig (all accompanied with Zenato's Valpolicella Classico Superiore), profiteroles or orange flourless cake with espresso. Cooking is an art & magic at this cosy place in South Yarra and I totally recommend it to all food lovers.

I also found it a shadow of what it was, which is a shame.
