The Motel

An old reliable on the inner city club scene, The Motel is far from a sleazy overnighter, but rather a hotspot for the young and glamorous.

Editorial

The fitout of The Motel, many years ago now, was one of the first to bring old retro charm with a contemporary flourish. It captures the perfect blend of old school disco with more recent R&B vibes that will have you sashaying around the dance floor while you say: 'I can't believe she's wearing that'. Fashion commentary aside, the crowd here does dress up, and so the door policy favours those who have made an effort - rather than the bedraggled leftovers from some of the earlier closing clubs nearby.

The drinks menu features a range of import and local beers by the bottle, and the usual spirits, while the cocktail menu is a pleasant mix of favourites. The prices are fairly standard nightclub prices, so make sure you budget enough for your whole night as there aren't any other clubbing options within walking distance - particularly for the ladies in heels.

The Motel is split over two main levels, neatly dividing the club up so it never feels too crowded. The downstairs features a lounge and two bar areas as well as a dance floor. Upstairs is the real draw card: the massive roof deck that looks back over the night cityscape. The rooftop also features a bar and a large, second dance floor and is perfect for summer nights in the city. In winter, well, you'll just have to keep the dance floor hot with those moves you've been practising at home in front of Video Hits… you know the ones.
