See the ghosts of ravers past in this luxe-functional events space.

Editorial

Once upon a time, when children held glow-sticks and salvation could be had in the middle of a bass bin, Embassy was the Queensbridge. Or, to give it its cheeky sounding street name, it was the QBH. But that was back in the naughties. And, if you can remember being a club-kid in the naughties, to paraphrase the famous saying about Woodstock, then, clearly, you weren't there.

These days, the Queensbridge has been reborn as Embassy. And perhaps our memories can be clearer in a place with several spaces often used for one-off events.

The club that has played host to some House greats, including the venerable Carl Cox, hasn't completely turned its back on its high-hat heritage. Those who believe in dance-salvation will know what-happens-when in the venue's rotating roster of club nights. In fact, ask these hip people. We can't keep up with the passwords required for this electro guest list. But, we can go and drink in the bar.

While irregular beats can play out in the big hotel, the front bar marches to a fairly steady drummer. A decent selection of drinks is served by decent staff in a decent after-work atmosphere. Just the thing for a grown up corporate raver.

SM King, May 2010
