Tiki Bar Lounge combines retro-Polynesian charm with serious cocktails.

Editorial

You've got to appreciate a bar with its own blog. Especially when said blogs tackle the tough questions, i.e. "Which is more flammable, vampires or zombies?" Obviously the proprietors behind Richmond's Tiki Bar Lounge have a sense of humour and a firm grasp of pop culture reference points. They also have a wonderfully decorated bar. As the name would suggest, there's a very Polynesian, very Tiki-inspired look underpinning the whole thing. No cliche is left unturned and the bar is awash with hula girl motifs, bamboo, retro furniture, palm trees, bad taste art and Tiki masks. It looks wonderfully gaudy.

Like any self-respecting Tiki bar, the drink focus is on rum-based cocktails. Classics like the Mai Tai and the Zombie are present and accounted for, alongside imported beers. Actually the Zombie is pretty serious; it combines four types of premium rum, lime, lemon, passionfruit and pineapple, all "brought to life with a bit of fire and some Voodoo magic." Not surprising then that there's a limit of two per customer.

If you're looking for something a little different, or just a night of retro boozing and Polynesian charm, Tiki Bar Lounge makes a change from grungy pubs and designer bars.
