Public House

A smashing tapas menu helps those boutique beers go down a treat. Or, is it the other way round?

Editorial

Entering the architecturally designed, faux-industrial aesthetic that is Public House, one is hit by a feeling of serenity. Strange, as the first impression is one of cold, polished concrete, wood and steal. However, it's the mix of striking yet subtle design and simple, functional furniture that make this bar an easy one to stretch your legs in. The solid wood and steal furniture is sturdy enough for any kind of gathering, be it after-work drinks or a toga party. Look closely and you'll even spot various objects of bar paraphernalia - ash trays, pot glasses, drip trays etc - incorporated into the decor.

Mid-week you'll find a relaxed crowd supping cocktails and beers while nibbling from the tapas menu. Tuck into some Peking duck dumplings while you nurse a pot of Asahi, or throw around a few chicken skewers as you down a Kir Royale. With more than 20 beers on top or by the bottle, you could spend most of your weekend working your way around the globe, ?beer wise' that is. If you're after something new, check the board for wine and beer specials.

And for those after some fresh air (passive smoking?), you're bound to make the roof-top beer garden your new best friend. Packed with bench seating and heaters (sooooo important for a Melbourne winter), each weekend sees it packed with rowdy groups in search of the ultimate good time.
