Over the years, it’s been many things, but Olympic Park has always been a vital part of Melbourne’s landscape.

Editorial

Olympic Park started out as the Melbourne's Zoological Gardens 150 years ago and has lived through many incarnations and uses.

Over time, it's seen cycling, motor racing, VFA grand finals, motorbike and sidecar races, wrestling, sprinting, and in 1951, the area was developed, with a velodrome and swimming pool for the 1956 Olympic Games. After that it saw more football, soccer, equestrian events and greyhound racing.

It now houses the Olympic Park Stadium, home to Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Victory and training ground for the Socceroos and many school and club athletic meetings; the Lexus Centre, home for the Collingwood Football Club and the Victoria Institute of Sport; and the new state-of-the-art Rectangular Stadium, due to be finished in 2010.

Across the road from Melbourne Park, it's still a vibrant and integral part of Melbourne's sporting landscape.
