Der Raum is all about the cocktails, with its simply jaw-dropping spirits list recognised in many international awards, including New Orleans' Tales of the Cocktails. This is not the spot to nurse a pot of Draught. Try something outrageously tasty and lip-smacking refreshing like The Paddy Melon Smash, with Don Julio Blanco, Aperol, watermelon and lemon. Just make sure your wallet is packed full. This kind of decadence comes with a hefty price tag attached.
It is truly worth it, however. No corners are cut - you won't find any premixes or cordials here. All juices are hand pressed. They use Boker's Bitters, with original 1800's recipe. Even the ice is specifically made in larger cubes to chill your drink for longer! Drinks International recently voted this haunt the 8th best bar in the world, no less. That gong accompanies several squillion accolades already accrued. They know what they're doing here, so you don't have to. Just sprawl out on an ottoman and enjoy.

Der Raum is without a doubt one of the best cocktail bars in Melbourne. Every ingredient used is high quality and techniques are executed perfectly. The research and attention to detail make this bar a leader in cocktail culture.

Great little spot in Richmond. Be prepared not to get any change from a $20 note though for any drink tho.

The accolades are well deserved. Der Raum ("the room"), is a rare find. Combining a molecular mixology approach to their cocktails, the mixologists here are well equipped with product knowledge, passion, charm and a customer-centric approach. The cocktails come in a variety of vessels - including a glass hip flask housed in a brown paper bag, a mini garden watering can and a syringe. To say it is forward thinking and gimmicky would not be recognising the way in which the vessels complete the experience of watching the talented bartenders serving up experimental cocktails that tickle the palate and provide you with entertainment. Take the time to visit this bar - omitting it from your 'to do' list of Melbourne would be a regrettable mistake.
