Misty's 1950's Diner
Editorial
The motto at Misty's is “remember to bring your appetite because it's gonna get messy”, and this retro '50s-style diner (and car wash!) lives up to its promise. Owner Misty Singer has recreated the classic diner experience of her homeland, complete with gloriously lurid pink and aqua bench seating, tabletop juke boxes, squeezy sauce bottles, smiley staff in candy-striped uniforms and a plethora of American flags. Park your car at the wash next door while you wolf down big, messy burgers, hot dogs, chilli fries, Salisbury steaks, thickshakes you can barely suck through the straw and root beer floaters.
There are no pretentions about health here - platters such as the “carb coma” and “the pig out” indicate you should be here only if you're in the mood for a guilt-free fix. That said, much of what is served is made on-site, not out of a tin, the atmosphere is fun and Misty is constantly buzzing around to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. Invariably, it is. The chilli fries come as a huge mound of shoestring fries topped with tasty chilli con carne and the ubiquitous cheese. Try the jalapeno poppers - cheese-filled, deep-fried jalapeno peppers, add some mini burger “sliders” and wash it all down with a Reese's Pieces thickshake. If you can manage dessert there are house-made Oreo muffins, old-fashioned banana splits, or take away some of their huge selection of American sweets such as Butterfingers, Ding Dongs and Twinkies.
