Mamacas welcomes you to her Mediterranean kitchen and intends to introduce to you a novel dining experience. Her specialty is in preparing mezedes, an old traditional custom of small plates which are shared by everyone, they arrive at the table as they are prepared from the kitchen.

Editorial

Mamacas Mediterranean Kitchen - or “mum's kitchen” - is situated at the end of Chapel Street where there are more places to eat than fashion stores in which to do damage to your credit card in. It claims to be Mediterranean, but we think its heart is back in the forums of Greece. The lights are dimmed over the many tables which sit contentedly among the atmosphere of cheerful good will. Smiling waiters deliver enormous amounts of food to eager diners who allow them to fill up their vase-sized wine glasses with a variety of drops from the well-chosen wine list.

The menu is divided into sections, starting with dips and moving through to a significant list of vegetarian, seafood and meat offerings. The mezedes plates are mum's speciality and conform to the Mediterranean tradition of sharing with friends and family. Yes, you can have the usual dips and grills, but there are far more interesting dishes to try on this menu - we liked the kolokithakia (zucchini and fetta fritters) and eggplant saganaki, which is grilled eggplant topped with a rich tomato salsa, fetta and olives. The loukaniko, which translates to pork sausage, is definitely worth a taste, as are the salads and the lemon and oregano fried potatoes. Matching wine to the cuisine is easy with the range of Australian and international wines. In the balmy months it's nice idea to enjoy both food and wine in their gorgeous little courtyard.

I went there with my girlfriend, the food quality was good. we have ordered the seafood platter for 2 and when I looked at the plate I asked myself....is this really a seafood platter for 2 or is just an entree for one? I wont go there anymore since I give value to my money...
