Blue Bar

VBlue Bar is a cool if loud spot for a trendy drink on Chapel Street nights out.

Editorial

Blue Bar was one of, if not the first bar I set foot in upon reaching these shores over four years ago. My first abiding memory was that it was very, very loud. Some things never change. This place is very much about the music, so don't head here if, like that first evening out in Oz, you want some quiet chat.

Having said that, if you want a major night out in a cool bar decked out with an entire host of super-trendy party people, you're in the right spot. DJs work the decks most nights. The place goes for grungy cool, more usually associated with venues further up the Windsor end of Chapel, with graffiti-strewn exposed brick walls, dim lighting, arcade machines, squishy leather banquettes and stools that have seen better days. And the volume's definitely a bit more subdued during the afternoons.

While the vibe may be more relaxed, the drinks prices aren't. Cocktails will set you back almost $20 and mainline spirits and bottled beers aren't particularly cheap either. This is Prahran after all - they may dress grungy, but they have the cash to splash.

Streetside seating provides plenty of opportunity for people watching, or you can crowd around the open fireplace if the winter chill is setting in. This is a place to be seen, and to cosy up to those doing the seeing.
