The Pier Hotel
Editorial
Situated on the corner of Port Melbourne's Bay Street, yet still treating guests to breathtaking bay views, The Pier is a clever combination of bar, restaurant and function space with a private rooftop area to boot. The off-white exterior does little to hint at the stylish interior, which is a blend of modern wood furnishings, cream walls and large arched windows. In winter a fireplace roars with warmth and welcome, while in the summer the sea breeze flits throughout the spacious, uncluttered interior.
The menu is created to accommodate a casual bite or a leisurely meal, with breakfast available until 3pm. A variety of set menu options are available, or choose from the a la carte menu - perhaps try the tasting platter of mixed appetisers including chicken satay, salmon gravalax, baby pepper filled with fetta, dolmades, sliced cured meats and roquette salad with Persian fetta. Follow with a main of confit duck breast resting on sauteed bok choy, snow peas and broccolini, accompanied by chilli jam, taro chips and an aromatic blood orange sauce; or the beef burger with beetroot, tomato, bacon, eggs and lettuce, served with fries. Finish with the white chocolate mousse. The good sized wine list is a combination of local and imported varieties with many available by the glass.
