Northcote RSL
Editorial
Unless you have a penchant for pokies the reason you come here is to eat, not drink. Although for an RSL they have quite the eclectic beverage selection. While of course you can get a pot of Carlton on tap, you can also down a Corona. While you could settle on a glass of cask fruity white ($3.10), you could also try their selection of bottled wines. For the seniors though, they can't go past the Abbotsford Stout; long necks no less.
But hang on, let's get back to Barneys. The décor is circa late '80s, with its purple carpet and blonde wood high back chairs. It's a fairly large open and airy room with a kids' indoor playground obligingly located in the far, far, right-hand corner.
If you are lucky enough to find yourself here of a Wednesday evening, you my friend are here for Steak Nite. A perfectly grilled Porterhouse will set you back $16. Of a Thursday, Parmas are all the go.
Seniors again luck out and can score either two courses for $13 or three for $15. The rest of us will have to settle for crumbed whiting salad with mango aioli, or one of their absolutely top burgers.
A large function room that fits about 150 people is also available, as is off-street parking. Word of warning: the entrance and car park is around the back off Dennis Street. That should save you some hassles.
