Joe's Shoe Store
Editorial
Giving you more boho for your buck, we have the delightfully named Joe's Shoe Store. No, it's not a lazy proprietor who couldn't be bothered changing the venue's facade, it's the new black - everything old is new again! In the ever-growing ??hip' landscape that is Northcote (we've been saying this for years, but it still hasn't reached ??cool' yet), just keep your eyes peeled for a bar that looks like a shoe store and you've found Melbourne's cutest new bar.
The decor of this bar runs a fine line between eclectically eccentric and tacky. One could be forgiven for thinking the interior decorator went through some flotsam from the wreckage of a ship on its return voyage from Spain to the St Kilda Bowls Club via a British boarding school. Give you a good idea? Yes, eclectic is the word. Actually, old and eclectic, and occasionally plastic are good words to describe the interior's accoutrement. With booze offerings to make the decor, you're sure to find a new drink to call your own.
Meanwhile, the cement floor extends out the back to the concreted courtyard (now you're getting that true ?continental' flavour), where you can relax with a few beers and have a good ol' chin wag into the late hours. Or smoke-free laughs are available in one of the booths inside, or seated next to that stranger (read: future ?ex') on the banquette along the wall. As long as you're close to the bar, it doesn't really matter where you sit, now does it? Of course, you might have just popped in for a quick one while waiting for some service next door at Pizza Meine Liebe. Either way, happy times.

I disagree - the staff when I've been there have been efficient and exceedingly friendly, if a little eccentric...but that just adds to the fun, does it not??
