The Sherlock Holmes Inn
Editorial
While the kitschy name might suggest a cloak and dagger affair, this is not really the case at the Sherlock Holmes Inn. Here is a straight up good old fashioned pub. Dark wood and exposed brick walls adorned with old-school portraits of the detective and his faithful companion, Dr Watson, all make for a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. It's the sort of place where even if you don't drink the stuff, you will crave a pint of Guinness. Yes, there is certainly something of the ye olde English country tavern here.
A good range of tap beer sees that even the most discerning amber ale connoisseur will be taken care of. There's Hargreaves Hill Pale Ale and ESB from the Yarra Valley. There's James Squire Golden Ale and the popular Mountain Goat Hightail Ale is also on offer. Of course, those after something a little closer to the motherland would be happy with the inclusion of Kilkenny Irish Ale too.
There's a good range of crisp whites and hearty reds that go perfectly with their food menu. You could just nip in here for a quick lunch if you're in the mood for a pot of Stella and a pizza but really, when you visit this inn it's best to partake in something more along the lines of their corn beef served with braised cabbage and mash and a glass of merlot - this is the real Sherlock Holmes Inn experience.
