At the front of the sizeable room stands the stage, with a sunken dancefloor at its feet. These boards have been treaded by ravers (Melbourne techno institution Teriyaki Anarki Saki used to hold regular nights here), emos, metalheads, rockdogs and those up for a laugh (it's the official after party venue for Melbourne's International Comedy Festival).
If standing on tiptoe peering over shoulders isn't your thing, the Mezzanine Bar conveniently overlooks proceedings from above. More intimate and comfier than downstairs, with booth seats and plush ottomans, you can put your feet up rather than have them stood on. The only place to avoid standing all night - strangely - is the bar back downstairs. With a low ceiling thanks to the mezzanine above, not only can it get stuffy, it's the one time you remember you're actually several feet below ground.
