The Emerald Peacock
Editorial
Ahh, the opulence. There is nothing like a wealth of velvet, an abundance of chandelier and a plush of peacocks to make all seem right in the world. The Emerald Peacock Lounge is a work of art, with gorgeous brocade pouffes, striped velvet banquettes and of course, the Peacock motif abounds. As most would agree a bar is all about 'being seen' but sometimes it's about 'seeing', and the Peacock Lounge has both perspectives down.
Hide away in one of the spacious and elegant booths while sipping on the bar's namesake (The Emerald Peacock - a blend of muddled watermelon, pomegranate molasses, apple and lime juice and Pisco liqueur, $17) and keeping an eye on a potential suitor. Once ready to spread your wings, emerge from your decadent private Idaho, strut across the perfectly polished floorboards and head to the Rooftop Bar. Here a different scene awaits. A mix of inlaid wooden walls and Balinese candle lamps give this spacious rooftop a more relaxed atmosphere. With a backdrop of the city skyline, here you are most definitely on show.
At these heights, why not move onto the weekly cocktail special such as a Rose and Rhubarb Martini, or order up one of their gourmet pizzas, with names such as the Red Hummingbird, Urban Chick and of course the Emerald Peacock.
On Saturday nights it might take a while to be served, but there will be plenty to look at while you wait.

Honesty the decor is beautiful - they decided to pull "Guest list " and made people wait when the venue was not even full. Poor form!

Unquestionably one of the best bars in Melbourne, if not the best. The service is great as is the variety of cocktails. Think award winning, Red Hummingbird, in a more spacious relaxing atmosphere. Always filled with a great friendly crowd. Rooftop bar is always a favourite spot for the fresh air as well as the city view. Highly recommend this bar for anything from a drink to a full function. Do not leave til you try the Taj Ice Tea, though i recommend having a couple friends help you finish it =)

I attempted to go to a friend's birthday party there a few weeks ago (she had pre-arranged, with names on the door etc), and they simply would not *speak* to anyone trying to get in - the door was just shut. When they shoved someone out and you tried to speak to them, they slammed the door in your face. I emailed a polite note explaining my frustrations to them - and guess what?? No reply!!? Given the attitude of their staff, it is really no surprise at all.

Its a shame such a beautiful bar only about 1 month after it opens has been turned into an "im too good for you" hot spot. Don't waste your time with this place for an after work drink. They are trying to turn it into an exclusive nightclub... Don't bother

Once it's full it's full so get there early even on a Saturday. I had my birthday there a couple of weeks ago and it was great, staff were amazing. Their guest list does only apply until 8pm though so if you do have a party there make sure you tell everyone to arrive by 8 as they are usualy full by then. It maight be handy for people to realise that they are a restaurant bar and so don't pack the place full like most places do which is good if you wnat to have some food and casual drinks. I don't think they are unfair or picky on the door its just that once they are full they are full!!! get in early.

I rocked up at 5:01 for an after work drink and they said they were doing dinner only. What a joke...

It's sad that just because a place is so busy you are all bitter they didn't let you in?? Do you not think they would if they could, I've been and I love it im one of the sensible ones who get there before 5 and get in before they are full.

Door staff are rude and tell you the bar is at full capacity even though it is not. This has happened a number of times. Do not recommend!

abhorrent. staff members are more interested in showing off how important they are than actually offering any semblance of service. so rude.

Been there 3 times because of peoples b'days and i absolutely hate the place, would not recommend it to anyone. Door staff are rude and like the above ppl have said give the "too full" comment yet it is empty inside. Although i will say i was happy that they didn't just discriminate against a guy, they knocked 3 girls back but then 5 minutes later they let us all inside... wtf?!?! I just don't buy any drinks when i get inside places like this.

Did High Tea at the Emarald Peacock yesterday. Lovely room, rather decadent feel, but the food was a bit of a disappointment, really lovely, but not enough for 6 ladies and therefore rather overpriced.

This place is upmarket and very nice inside, however the staff and managers there are horrible. Service was tolerable at best, and despite not being overfull, a group of about 14 of us were kicked out because there were only 4 of us with drinks in our hand. This was regardless of the fact that most of us had just finished our 5th or 6th drink. Not going back.
